Pieria is one of the fifty-one prefectures of Greece Located in the southern part of Macedonian(Central Macedonian).Its capital is the town of Katerini.The name Pieria originates from the ancient tribe and the ancient country of Pieria.In Pieria, there are many archeological sites,such as Dion,Pydna,the Paliambela,Kolindros and Platamonas.Pieria is also home of Orpheus and the Muses.Olympus, he highest mountain in Greece and residence of the Greek gods,rises in the southern part of pieria.The Pierian mountains lie to the west.The population is rising, while emigration is limited. The land of Pieria is characterized by diversity.It has high mountains,Olympus and Pieria with a wide variety of flora and fauna.It has fertile plains and great coastline.Hence it is an economically developed province with vast beaches,but also very interesting archaeological sites(Dion,Pydna,Livithra,Castle Platamonas etc) and wetlands(Aliakmonas,Kitros,etc).
It is mainly rural area,and produces grain,cotton,vegetables,legumes,fruits and others. also it is famous for tobacco variety absorbed by foreign markets.Good source of wealth creation is also farming and timber.
